Teen Charged in Newcastle Property Crimes: Op Soteria

A teenage boy will face court today charged under Operation Soteria following an investigation into alleged property offences near Newcastle.

On Saturday 23 August 2025, several bottles of alcohol were allegedly stolen from a business on Maryland Drive, Maryland, by a number of young people.

About 4am yesterday (Tuesday 26 August 2025), a break and enter incident occurred at a home on Benjamin Close, Wallsend.

A handbag, keys, and Mitsubishi Outlander SUV were allegedly stolen from the property.

Police attached to Operation Soteria were notified and commenced further inquiries.

About 11.20am yesterday (Tuesday 26 August 2025), police located the SUV parked on Mayo Street, Wallsend.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested near the vehicle, with a subsequent search of the boy allegedly revealing keys to the vehicle, a balaclava, and gloves.

The boy was taken to Waratah Police Station where he was charged with six offences,

  • Aggravated break and enter dwelling etc in company steal
  • Take and drive conveyance without consent of owner
  • Goods in personal custody suspected being stolen (not m/v)
  • Possess housebreaking implements
  • Minor enter/remain in area for retail sale of liquor, and
  • Shoplifting.

Two outstanding warrants were also executed.

He was refused bail to appear before a children's court today (Wednesday 27 August 2025).
