Two teenage boys will face court charged following a pursuit in the state's west yesterday.
About 5.20pm on Saturday 14 March 2026, police were called to Currong Crescent, Orange, following reports of a stolen vehicle.
Officers attached to Central West Police District were told that about 5.20pm, the owner of a vehicle — a 41-year-old man — had parked his car in a driveway on Currong Street when two unknown individuals allegedly entered the vehicle and attempted to drive away.
The man proceeded to intervene before the driver allegedly accelerated towards him, striking him with the vehicle, after which the pair drove from the scene.
The man sustained minor injuries and was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being transported to Orange Health Service in a stable condition.
About 6.50pm, officers attached to Chifley Proactive Crime Team (PCT) were patrolling the Mid-Western Highway between Bathurst and Blayney, when they sighted the vehicle.
Police attempted to stop the vehicle; however, when it allegedly failed to comply a pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit continued along the Mid-Western Highway, during which police will allege the passenger threw a number of items from the vehicle at pursuing officers.
A short time later the vehicle crashed into a gutter which caused all four tyres to deflate, and the vehicle came to a stop near the intersection of Church Street, Blayney.
Police will further allege that as officers approached the vehicle, it accelerated away northbound along the Mid-Western Highway before stopping again at the intersection of Hill Street.
The driver – a 17-year-old boy – was arrested. The passenger a 16-year-old boy – ran from the scene into a paddock before he was arrested on Glasson Street.
Police will allege that during the arrest, the boy punched a female sergeant several times in the face. A member of the public assisted her in restraining the boy until additional police resources arrived.
Both boys were taken to Bathurst Police Station where the older boy was charged with
- Take and drive conveyance without consent of owner,
- Drive furiously in motor vehicle do / cause bodily harm
- Never licenced person drive vehicle on road
- Fail to stop and assist after impact cause injury
- Police pursuit – not stop – drive at speed
- Drive recklessly / furiously or speed / manner dangerous
- Not keep left of dividing line – not class B/C vehicle
- Possess prohibited drug
The younger boy was charged with
- Be carried in conveyance taken without consent or owner
- Intentionally throw object at vehicle / vessel risk safety
- Assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm
- Intimidate police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm
- Enter enclosed lands not prescribed premises without lawful excuse
They were refused bail and will appear before a children's court today (Sunday 15 March 2026.
Chifley Police District acknowledges and extends its appreciation to the members of the public who witnessed the incident and assisted police in the swift arrests.
