Teens charged after offences committed in stolen car in southern NSW

Five teens have been charged after committing a number of offences in an alleged stolen car in the state’s south, NSW Police say.

Just before 7pm yesterday, a Toyota Camry was allegedly stolen from Caulfield North in Victoria, after the owner was threatened with a bottle and assaulted.

Five youths were seen leaving the area in the stolen vehicle.

About 2.30am today, one of the youths allegedly threw a glass bottle at another moving vehicle while travelling along the Hume Highway at Holbrook. The vehicle was damaged; however, no one was injured.

About 5.30am, the vehicle was involved in another incident at a service centre off the Hume Highway at Yass. It’s alleged the occupants stole a number of items from within the store before fleeing without paying for petrol.

Police from The Hume Local Area Command were alerted to the incidents and commenced a search for the vehicle.

About 6.45am, a pursuit was initiated when the car was spotted on the Hume Highway near Goulburn.

The driver failed to stop; however, lost control of the car and crashed.

All the occupants fled the vehicle.

Two females, both aged 15, were immediately arrested while a search commenced for the other occupants.

The two girls were taken to Goulburn Base Hospital for treatment to injuries sustained in the crash.

The three other occupants - all males aged 13, 14 and 15 - were arrested a short time later.

The 15-year-old boy was also taken to hospital for treatment.

All five were subsequently taken to Goulburn Police Station where they were charged with numerous offences in relation to the alleged car theft, malicious damage and police pursuit.

The boys and one girl were refused bail to appear in a children’s court tomorrow.

The other girl was given conditional bail to appear in a children’s court on 21 August 2017.
