Two teenage boys will face court charged after a string of alleged aggravated break and enters in the state's northwest earlier this week.
About 7.30am on Wednesday (25 March 2026), police received a report of a break-in at a home on Short Street, Bourke.
Officers attached to Central North Police District attended and were told a group of boys had allegedly broken into the home before stealing a whipper snipper and running from the scene.
Yesterday (Thursday 26 March 2026), police were called to Darling Street, Bourke, following reports of two separate break ins at homes on the street.
Police arrived and were told that at the first address, a group of boys had allegedly forced entry into a shed on the property about 12.50pm the same day, before smashing the window of a BMW parked inside the shed and stealing the vehicle's log books.
Following a search, police recovered the log books in the home's backyard.
At the second residence on Darling Street, police were told a group of boys had allegedly broken into the home about 1pm the same day, before allegedly interfering with CCTV cameras, breaking a window and stealing a camera.
Following extensive inquiries, about 3pm the same day, police attended an address on Hope Street, Bourke, where they located and arrested two boys – aged 14 and 13 – before taking both to Bourke Police Station.
The 14-year-old boy was charged with:
- Aggravated break and enter dwelling etc in company steal less than or equal to $60,000 (two counts),
- Break and enter house etc steal value less than or equal to $60,000, and
- Enter vehicle or boat without consent of owner/occupier.
The 13-year-old boy was charged with:
- Aggravated break and enter dwelling etc in company steal less than or equal to $60,000 (two counts),
- Enter vehicle or boat without consent of owner/occupier, and
- Face blackened/disguised with intent to commit indictable offence.
Both boys were refused bail to appear before a children's court today (Friday 27 March 2026).
