Teenagers charged following investigations into the theft of jewellery from stores at Rhodes and Macquarie Park.
About 4.30pm on Sunday 10 August 2025, police were called to a jewellery store at a shopping centre at Rhodes, following reports of a theft.
Officers attached to Burwood Police Area Command commenced an investigation after reports two unknown males entered the shop and asked to see samples of jewellery before taking gold chains and leaving, failing to pay for the items.
Following inquiries, a 17-year-old male was arrested after attending Campsie Police Station about 9.30am on Friday 22 August 2025, and charged with steal from person and larceny.
He was granted conditional bail to appear before a children's court on Wednesday 24 September 2025.
In a separate incident, officers attached to Ryde Police Area Command attended a jewellery store at a Macquarie Park shopping centre about 2pm on Monday 18 August 2025, following reports of a theft.
Police were told two unknown males had reportedly entered the shop and asked to see samples of jewellery before taking gold chains and leaving, failing to pay for the items. There were no reports of injuries.
Following extensive inquiries, about 3.40pm on Tuesday 19 August 2025, an 18-year-old man was arrested at a precious metals exchange in Penrith, before he was taken to Penrith Police Station.
Later the same day, two 17-year-old males were arrested after attending Gladesville Police Station.
The 18-year-old was charged with three counts of steal from retail store, receive stolen property, two counts of dispose property, and knowingly deal with proceeds of crime intent to conceal.
He appeared at Burwood Local Court on Wednesday 20 August 2025, where he was granted conditional bail to appear before the same court on Wednesday 15 October 2025.
The two teens, aged 17, were charged with steal from person, and knowingly deal with proceeds of crime with intent to conceal.
They both appeared before a children's court on Wednesday 20 August 2025, where they were granted conditional bail to appear at the same court on Wednesday 24 September 2025.
