Teens Nabbed After Central Coast to Cowan Chase

Two teenage boys are in custody after a pursuit that covered areas of the Central Coast and Hawkesbury River region.

Shortly after 7am today (Monday 1 July 2026), officers from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were patrolling the M1 Motorway, Palmdale, when they saw a station wagon travelling north, which had been reported stolen.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle; however, when the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit was terminated shortly after due to safety concerns.

About an hour later, the station wagon was again seen by officers from Traffic and Highway Patrol Command now travelling south bound on the M1 Motorway, near Calga.

When the driver again allegedly failed to stop as directed, a second pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit continued south on the M1 where road spikes were successfully deployed just south of the Berowra off-ramp.

The pursuit continued south on the M1 with the occupants of the station wagon allegedly throwing objects from the vehicle.

The station wagon came to a stop about 1km south of the Kuring Gai Chase on-ramp at Cowan, where – with the assistance of officers from the Raptor Squad, Dog Unit and Kuring Gai Police Area Command – two 16-year-old boys were arrested.

They were taken to Hornsby Police Station where inquiries continue.

Police will allege the station wagon collided with several other vehicles during the pursuit.

There have been no reports of injuries.

The station wagon was reported stolen from a Tennyson Point address earlier today.
