Katanning Homicide Probe Leads to Fraud Charges

Detectives from Homicide Squad have further charged a 26-year-old man following an extensive investigation arising from an incident that occurred in Katanning in May 2026.

On 19 May 2026, the 26-year-old man was charged with three offences following an investigation into the death of a man on 13 May 2026. That matter is currently processing through the courts.

Further inquiries allegedly identified the man falsely claimed to hold a university degree and qualifications he purported to possess. Police will allege he used falsified academic records to obtain employment in June 2023 as a cardiac scientific officer at a Western Australian hospital. He also allegedly provided false information regarding his volunteer work within the local community.

It will be alleged this information was provided by the man to the Supreme Court.

It will also be alleged that, in October 2023, the man used falsified documentation in an attempt to gain admission to other universities for further education purposes.

Detectives also identified two alleged driving-related offences, where in May 2026, the man drove a vehicle on two occasions in Gnowangerup while his driver's licence was disqualified.

The 26-year-old man from Katanning has been additionally charged with:

• 1 x Attempted to pervert the course of justice

• 1 x Gains Benefit by Fraud

• 1 x With Intent to Defraud Utters a Forged Record

He is next due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court on these charges on Friday, 18 September 2026.

The man has also been charged with two counts of 'No authority to drive - suspended' and is due to appear before the Katanning Magistrates Court on those charges on Tuesday, 15 September 2026.
