A new bridge which bears the name of a pioneering City of Logan family has officially
opened at Veresdale Scrub.
Teese Bridge, on Veresdale Scrub School Road, has undergone a $1.7 million
transformation from a one-lane timber bridge to a two-lane concrete bridge providing
a better network connection for all road users.
The project was jointly funded by Logan City Council and neighbouring Scenic Rim
Regional Council along with $700,000 from the Australian Government's Bridges
Renewal Program.
The Teese family has been involved for generations in dairying, cropping and grazing
in the City of Logan and Scenic Rim regions.
Council's contractor, McIlwain, who carried out the works, gifted the Teese family a
plaque and a piece of the old timber bridge as a keepsake.
City Infrastructure Chair Councillor Teresa Lane said the new bridge will provide a
more reliable and durable crossing.
"The Teese Bridge rebuild is the latest in a series of works across the city to replace
aging timber bridges with more modern and reliable infrastructure," Cr Lane said.
"This replacement will mean a safer, more reliable journey for residents and visitors."
Division 9 Councillor Scott Bannan said it was fitting that the Teese family should
continue to have an entry point to the city named after them.
"The family has given so much to the community and now their name will continue to
live on in the district through the bridge," Cr Bannan said.
