Temporary Access Road Set for Pine Gully Upgrade

Wagga Wagga City Council is advising residents and motorists that it will be constructing a temporary access road, extending Turramia Crescent to Pine Gully Road, for use during the next stage of the Pine Gully Road upgrade project.

Work is scheduled to start on installing the new temporary road between Coppabella Drive and Pine Gully Road on Monday 10 November 2025, weather permitting.

The work is expected to take approximately six weeks to complete and will involve lane closures on Coppabella Drive and Pine Gully Road, along with speed reductions on these roads and on Turramia Crescent.

CHANGES IN STORE: A temporary access road will be installed between Coppabella Drive and Pine Gully Road to managing traffic flow once roundabout construction works get underway.

The Pine Gully Road - Cootamundra Boulevard intersection will remain open to traffic during this phase.

Council's Director Infrastructure Services Henry Pavitt says the new road will play an important role in managing traffic flow in the area once works start on the new roundabout at Pine Gully Road, Cootamundra Boulevard and Avocet Drive in early 2026.

"The installation of the new roundabout in the new year includes traffic islands, kerb and guttering and drainage improvements, which will take time," Mr Pavitt said.

"To minimise the duration of the construction phase, rather than using staged lane closures, we've made the decision to close the intersection itself and sections of Pine Gully Road on either side of the work zone of the site.

"We know this intersection is one of the key access points to Estella Rise and Gobbagombalin and that its closure will have a big impact on local residents and road users.

"However, the aim of the new temporary access road we're installing is to provide an alternate access point to the north of Cootamundra Boulevard, easing some of the potential congestion the Pine Gully Road closure would place on the Muttama Parade intersection.

"It will also hopefully help to mitigate the risk of lengthy delays at the Old Narrandera Rd, Olympic Highway intersection during the roundabout construction."

Residents in the streets surrounding the temporary access road – Coppabella Road, Turramia Crescent, and Paradise Drive – are advised there will be heavy machinery around the site and some impact on pedestrian movements during construction works.

Council is planning to open the temporary road to traffic immediately as soon as it is completed, and to keep it open through until the end of the roundabout construction, which is expected to occur between January and April 2026.

"We ask for your cooperation and understanding as we carry out both stages of this important project."

The Pine Gully Road upgrade project is funded by Wagga Wagga City Council.
