Indigo Shire Council has awarded a tender for the Wahgunyah Multipurpose Hardcourts and Lighting project to iDwala Pty Ltd for just under $900,000.

In August 2020, the Wahgunyah Recreation Reserve received a $1.09M grant under the Victorian Government's Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program for the project.

The project will provide competition standard tennis and netball facilities which will support increased participation in both sports, as well as providing safer facilities to conduct the activities.

The works will see the construction of two shared concrete netball / tennis courts, two dedicated professional tennis courts with sand filled artificial grass surface, as well as an upgrade of the existing netball court.

LED high tower lighting, fencing, new accessible concrete paths, player shelters, seating and water bubblers will also be included in the development.

Currently, the Wahgunyah Recreation Reserve is the primary community open space area in Wahgunyah and supports the Wahgunyah Football and Netball Club, Wahgunyah Tennis Club and the Corowa Rutherglen Motorsports Inc.

The new facilities will continue to support these clubs and provide for current and future generations of the community.

Mayor Jenny O'Connor congratulated the Wahgunyah community for its tireless work in advocating to bring this project to fruition.

Works are due to begin prior to Easter.
