Western Downs Regional Council is inviting developers and investors to seize a unique opportunity through the upcoming disposal of residential land in Wandoan.
The initiative comes as the region prepares for a significant workforce influx and long-term population growth, driven by the development of several major projects in the Wandoan region.
Mayor Smith said 11 freehold Council-owned sites, ranging from 800m² to 1600m², all zoned for low density residential use, were now available for tender to stimulate new housing development in Wandoan.
"These sites present an outstanding prospect for entities looking to address the growing accommodation needs of the Wandoan community," Mayor Smith said.
"This opportunity offers a potential accommodation solution for temporary and permanent workforce in line with Council's newly endorsed Regional Workforce Plan 2025-28.
"Through this tender process, we're supporting economic development and ensuring Wandoan is ready to welcome both temporary and long-term residents as major new projects in our region progress.
"The housing vacancy rate for Wandoan in currently sitting around 1.3% as at August 2025, which is well below the healthy rate of between 2.5% and 3.5%, so there's no question these lots are a fantastic investment.
"Council will accept tenders for individual lots, multiple lots or the entire group. Each lot offers generous land size, excellent street frontage, and is conveniently located close to the school, shops and recreational amenities."
Mayor Smith said tenders would be assessed against Council's Economic Development Strategy 2023-2028 and Local Action Housing Plan to ensure proposals bolster the regional economy. Interested parties are encouraged to visit Council's website to view the tender package at www.wdrc.au/tenders. Tender submissions close 16 October 2025.
