Territory reaps rewards from 2022 Merlin Darwin Triple Crown

NT Government

Following this year's successful Merlin Darwin Triple Crown in June, independent research has proven the many positive flow-on benefits the event has provided for the Territory.

A total of 40,448 attendances were recorded at this year's event, which was the first official Indigenous Round in the history of the Repco Supercars Championship. Almost half of the people who attended the event were visitors to the Top End, creating a significant economic benefit for the Territory.

Research also found the event generated a massive economic stimulus of $28.4 million to the Territory, of which $21.3 million was new money. This surpassed last year's event, which generated $23 million, of which $17 million was new money.

Combined, Supercars fans clocked up a total of 72,869 visitor nights in the Territory. More than half (59.5 per cent) of attendees said they were very likely to return to the Merlin Darwin Triple Crown next year.

The Net Promoter Score (NPS) was 60.9, and attendee satisfaction was 8.5 out of 10. An NPS above 50 is deemed as 'excellent'.

More than 95.7 per cent of respondents agreed or strongly agreed the Northern Territory Government should continue to invest in events such as the Merlin Darwin Triple Crown.

In addition, 93.8 per cent of attendees felt the event provided a positive impact on the Darwin community.
