The Leeton Shire Youth Council finished 2025 with a bang, celebrating the inaugural Youth Movie Night on Wednesday 29 October 2025 at the Roxy Community Theatre.

The Youth Movie Night brought together 120 students from across the Shire for a screening of the film "Maze Runner", preceded by a presentation about local mental health services by guest speakers from Intereach and Headspace.

Portfolio Lead for Youth & Children, Cr Sandra Nardi, said the Movie Night was the culmination of conversations and discussions had throughout the year, with the goal to bring together the three local high schools to celebrate Mental Health Month in a memorable way.

"The Youth Movie Night was a big hit and we are grateful to our Youth Councillors for being actively involved in seeing this initiative through, from ideation to execution.

"It was also great to recognise the group at the final Youth Council Meeting on 27 October 2025 with a certificate. Throughout the year, they have provided valuable feedback on how Council can better engage with the youth, what events young people would like to see, and other important youth related matters," she said.

The Youth Movie Night was possible thanks to $1,000 in funding from Wayahead, and support from Leeton Shire Councillors and staff.

The Youth Council has been established in an effort to provide advice to Leeton Shire Council and develop young leaders in an inclusive space where all views are respected as well as building awareness of local councils and constructive engagement as citizens.
