Third Suspect Charged in Hunters Hill Arson Plot

Ryde detectives have charged a third person following a series of alleged arson attacks at a home in Hunters Hill over recent months.

Between June and July 2026, officers attached to Ryde Police Area Command have been called to a home on Alexandra Street, Hunters Hill, several times following reports of arson attacks and attempted arson attacks.

No injuries were reported during any of the incidents; however, the home and surrounding property were damaged by the fires.

Following these incidents, Ryde detectives commenced Strike Force Helion to investigate the attacks which were all believed to be linked.

As part of the investigation, strike force detectives have arrested and charged two teenage boys over their alleged involvement in the arsons. They both remain before the courts.

Following further investigations, strike force detectives executed a search warrant at a home on Ely Street, Revesby, on Wednesday 29 July 2026.

During the search, police located and seized items believed to have been used in one of the incidents.

After further investigations, strike force detectives arrested a 26-year-old man at Gladesville Police Station yesterday (Sunday 2 August 2026).

He was charged with damage property by fire/explosion.

Police will allege in court the man attempted to set fire to the property on Sunday 5 July 2026; however, ran from the scene after being confronted by a security guard.

He was granted conditional bail to appear before Burwood Local Court on Monday 31 August 2026.

Investigations under Strike Force Helion continue.
