Thirteen arrested as Sydney Harbour Bridge operation concludes

Police have arrested 13 protesters after an operation on the Sydney Harbour Bridge this morning.

About 5.15am (Tuesday 14 May 2019), security staff operating on the Sydney Harbour Bridge observed several people on the bridge.

A number of people were detained by security personnel, but others were able to climb under the structure.

Police from Sydney City Police Area Command attended and were assisted by officers from the Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit, Marine Area Command and PolAir in removing protestors from beneath the bridge.

Earlier in the operation ten people were arrested. A short time ago, a further three protesters who were attached to ropes beneath the bridge were arrested.

All 13 protesters have been taken to Surry Hills and Day Street Police Stations to assist with inquiries.

Charges are expected.

The operation has now concluded.
