The 2021 Shinju Matsuri Festival is now underway, with Broome abuzz as thousands of revellers fill its streets, venues and shores for the iconic annual event.
Proudly supported by the McGowan Government, through Tourism WA's Regional Events Program, the popular festival is now in its 51st year, making it one of the longest-running events in Western Australia.
The Shinju Matsuri Festival plays an important role in celebrating Broome's rich pearling history, multicultural community and extraordinary natural landscapes.
The 2021 festival was extended from nine days to 15 days, giving festivalgoers more time to enjoy the region's history, multicultural community and natural landscapes.
Headline events for this year's festival - including the newly introduced Jetty Dining with MasterChef's Brendan Pang and Derek Lau, the Sunset Long Table Dinner, Chinatown Feast and the Floating Lantern Matsuri - have sold out, with some affiliate event tickets still available.
It is estimated approximately 20,000 people will attend more than 50 individual events over the two-week period, providing a significant boost to the local economy.
Last year's 50th anniversary event was a sell-out, with about 65 per cent of ticket sales going to visitors from other regions.
As stated by Premier Mark McGowan:

"Shinju Matsuri is always a popular event in town with local businesses as it brings in so many visitors and boosts the economy.
"It is also a great way to showcase our beautiful region to the rest of the State and world."
