Police have charged three people following an investigation into alleged drug supply offences near Newcastle.
In July 2025, Hunter Region Enforcement Squad officers commenced Strike Force Dukin to investigate the supply of heroin and methylamphetamine across the Hunter Region.
Following an extensive investigation, strike force officers executed search warrants at two homes in Birmingham Gardens and Waratah West about 9am yesterday (Wednesday 17 September 2025).
During the searches, officers allegedly located and seized 900g heroin, 110g methylamphetamine, 180ml GBL, and $88,520 cash.
A man and woman – both aged 35 – were arrested at the West Waratah property and taken to Newcastle Police Station.
During the arrest, the 35-year-old woman allegedly assaulted a Senior Constable; however, the officer was uninjured.
Strike force officers simultaneously stopped a motorcycle in the Mayfield area, with a subsequent search of the rider allegedly revealing 3.5g of methylamphetamine and $2,500 in cash.
The items were seized, and the rider – a 54-year-old man – was arrested and taken to Waratah Police Station.
The older man was charged with two counts of supply prohibited drug more than indictable quantity, two counts of possess prohibited drug, supply prohibited drug greater than commercial quantity, recklessly deal with proceeds of crime less than $5,000, and knowingly deal with proceeds of crime.
The 35-year-old woman was charged with three counts of possess prohibited drug, hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty, assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm, possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit, and supply prohibited drug greater than commercial quantity.
The younger man was charged by virtue of an outstanding warrant for drug and weapon offences.
All three were refused bail to appear before Bail Division Local Court 2 today (Thursday 18 September 2025).
