Three Charged Over Lake Macquarie Drive, Police Assault

Three men have been charged with alleged driving and assault police offences following an incident at Lake Macquarie overnight.

About 12.40am (Saturday 25 November 2023), police from Lake Macquarie Police District were patrolling Myall Street, Windale, when they made inquiries at a property regarding the riding of unregistered motorbikes.

When police arrived at the property, a 27-year-old man allegedly attempted to evade police; however, was arrested a short time later.

Police will allege in court that while they affected the arrest, a 33-year-old man threw an object at an officer, resulting in a laceration to his head. The Constable was taken to hospital for treatment.

A short time later, 29-year-old man at the property threw an object at another officer. The Senior Constable was uninjured.

The other men were arrested, and all three were taken to Belmont Police Station.

The 27-year-old was charged with drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, use unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle on road, possess prohibited drug, hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty, and carry cutting weapon upon apprehension.

He was refused bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court tomorrow (Sunday 26 November 2023).

The 33-year-old was charged with two counts of assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm, and assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm.

The 29-year-old was charged with hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty, and assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm.

Both were granted strict conditional bail to appear before Belmont Local Court on Wednesday 13 December 2023.
