Three Charged with Trafficking as Police Seize Drugs, $700k

Two men and a woman have been charged with trafficking illicit substances after Caulfield Divisional Response Unit (DRU) detectives concluded three separate drug trafficking investigations over the past fortnight.

This morning, Caulfield police, supported by the Prahran, Mornington and Dandenong DRUs, executed eight simultaneous search warrants in Elwood, St Kilda, South Melbourne, Brighton, and Elsternwick.

During the warrants police seized:

- Approximately 30 grams of what is alleged to be cocaine with an estimated street value of $10,500.

Two 25-year-old South Melbourne men have been charged with traffick and possess cocaine, and possess property suspected of being the proceeds of crime.

They have been bailed to appear before the Moorabbin Magistrates' Court on 6 April.

Today's results come after Caulfield DRU detectives last week seized 192 cannabis plants and approximately 15 kilograms of what is alleged to be cannabis in two separate busts.

On Tuesday 10 January, detectives acted on a community tip off, executing a search warrant in Lamana Road, Braeside where a large commercial quantity of cannabis plants with an estimated street value of $576,000 was uncovered.

Later that week, Caulfield police arrested a 49-year-old Carrum woman following the execution of a search warrant in Graham Road, Carrum on Friday 13 January.

A search of the property uncovered four mature cannabis plants, approximately 10 kilograms of what is alleged to be dried cannabis and approximately $170,000 cash.

During the search, police were led to a second address, where they executed a second search warrant on Governor Road, Braeside uncovering approximately five kilograms of what is alleged to be dried cannabis and approximately $570,000 cash.

From the two addresses, police seized:

- Approximately 15kgs of what is alleged to be dried cannabis with an estimated street value of $82,500

- Four mature cannabis plants with an estimated street value of $12,000

- Approximately $740,000 cash

The 49-year-old Carrum woman was charged with traffick a commercial quantity of drugs and possess property suspected of being the proceeds of crime.

She was bailed to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 21 April.

Quotes attributed to Caulfield Divisional Response Unit Detective Senior Sergeant David Quirk:

"Over the past two weeks, not only have we seized large commercial quantities of illicit substances, but we have also been successful in targeting the financial foundations of alleged drug traffickers.

"Sadly, police see the devastating effects illicit substances can have every single day. Whether an incident of drug fuelled violence or road trauma caused by an impaired driver, we, and our community, are sick of it.

"Our community can rest assured that our work will not stop here. We will continue to work around the clock to gather intelligence, arrest offenders and put them before the courts."
