Three drink drivers nabbed in Yarra

Police were out in force last night targeting traffic offences on roads in south-east Melbourne (12 April).

Three drivers have been caught allegedly drink driving and two had their cars impounded over the course of a few hours.

A 50 year-old man from Mount Waverley driving in the Burnley area allegedly returned a positive blood alcohol reading of .096.

He received a $484 fine and his licence was immediately cancelled and disqualified for six months.

A 39 year-old Cheltenham man was detected driving at 124km/h in a 100km/h zone on the Eastern Freeway around 2am. The driver allegedly returned a positive blood alcohol reading of .113.

His licence was immediately suspended for 11 months and his car was impounded for 30 days. The man is expected to be charged with drink driving, speeding and failing to indicate. He may face court at a later date.

A 30 year-old man from Hawthorn East was detected driving at 148km/h in a 100/km/h zone around 4am. He allegedly returned a blood alcohol reading of .119.

His licence was immediately suspended for 11 months and his car was impounded for 30 days. The man is expected to be charged with drink driving, dangerous driving and speeding. He may face court at a later date.

Senior Constable Stephen Frost from Yarra Highway Patrol said police were extremely disappointed with the risky and avoidable behaviour seen on the roads.

"We will continue to target these offences that drive the road toll," he said.

Drivers are urged to take extra care when travelling on our roads, especially during the Easter school-holiday period when we see an increased number of people going away for the long weekend.
