Three further men charged after investigations into public place shootings: Strike Force Keane

Fairfield City detectives have charged three men over their alleged roles in public place shootings in Sydney's south-west last year.

In September, detectives from Fairfield City Police Area Command established Strike Force Keane to investigate the circumstances surrounding a series of public place shootings in the local area.

The incidents included shots fired at a Bonnyrigg home on Monday 31 August 2020, the shooting of a 19-year-old man at Cabramatta and shots fired at a St Johns Park home on Tuesday 1 September 2020, and shots fired at a Fairfield Heights home on Wednesday 2 September 2020.

As part of investigations, detectives uncovered that the discharge of a firearm at a park at Canley Heights on Saturday 25 July 2020 and a verbal dispute the day before (Friday 24 July 2020), were also linked to the shootings and the incidents were related to an ongoing conflict between two groups in the area.

Six people have previously been charged by investigators. They remain before the courts.

Following extensive inquiries, Strike Force Keane detectives, assisted by South West Metropolitan Operations Support Group, executed four search warrants at Cabramatta, Canley Vale, Fairfield and St Johns Park from 7am today (Tuesday 20 April 2021).

During the searches, police seized items relevant to the operation.

Three men – aged 23, 29 and 33 – were arrested during the operation and taken to Fairfield Police Station.

The 33-year-old Cabramatta man was charged with fire firearm at dwelling-house with disregard for safety and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.

The 29-year-old Fairfield man was charged with fire firearm at dwelling-house with disregard for safety, possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.

The 23-year-old St Johns Park man was charged with discharge firearm intend cause grievous bodily harm, fire firearm at dwelling-house with disregard for safety and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.

They were all refused bail and will appear in Fairfield Local Court tomorrow (Wednesday 21 April 2021).

Investigations under Strike Force Keane are ongoing.
