Northern Territory Police have charged three youths following an incident in Darwin City yesterday afternoon in which an officer was allegedly struck with a knife.
A 14-year-old girl has been charged with intending to cause serious harm and causing harm, possessing, carrying or using a controlled weapon, assaulting police and causing harm, resisting police, hindering police, and assaulting a worker causing harm.
A 16-year-old boy has been charged with breaching bail, resisting police and hindering police. A 13-year-old girl has been charged with assaulting a worker causing harm, making threats, going armed in public, and possessing, carrying or using a controlled weapon.
The officer was discharged from hospital but has since returned for surgery.
Strike Force Trident is also investigating reports that a group allegedly harassed businesses in the CBD earlier that day.
Commissioner Martin Dole APM said: "Don't touch our cops.
"Our officers go to work to protect Territorians, and they deserve to return home safely. Assaulting an officer shows a complete disregard for their safety and for the people who serve our community.
"Violence towards police, security guards or anyone else will not be tolerated.
"I commend the responding officers and Strike Force Trident investigators for their work relating to this matter."
