Time for Gutwein to demand JobSaver

Tasmanian Labor

It is time for Premier Peter Gutwein to step up and demand JobSaver to help Tasmania's struggling tourism and tourism related businesses.

Shadow Minister for Finance and Economic Development Dean Winter said Tasmanian businesses were in desperate need of increased support.

"Tasmania's tourism and tourism related businesses are in desperate need of increased financial support and half-hearted attempts at asking the Federal Government to act are no longer enough," Mr Winter said.

"It is time for Premier Peter Gutwein to step up and demand his Federal colleagues implement a JobSaver program for Tasmania.

"We know Deputy Premier Jeremy Rockliff wrote a congratulatory letter to Scott Morrison that included a kind request for extended COVID-19 Disaster Payments and we know Premier Peter Gutwein spoke to the Prime Minister last week.

"However, we don't know if Peter Gutwein held his word and spoke to the PM again, or what came from the discussion if he did."

Mr Winter said support is needed now.

"Tourism and tourism related businesses right across the state are facing dire situations right now and JobSaver would help relieve some of the pressure on them.

"The Premier needs to put his foot down. It is clear half-hearted efforts aren't going to create change and if he truly cared about Tasmania's tourism businesses he would be doing everything he could to lobby his Federal colleagues for increased support.

"Tourism and tourism related businesses need support now, before it is too late."
