TLDMG to continue monitoring Tropical Cyclone Owen

The Townsville Local Disaster Management Group (TLDMG) will meet today, to monitor the latest weather predictions relating to Tropical Cyclone Owen.

The TLDMG remains on Lean Forward and will analyse weather data and predicted rainfall for our region as Tropical Cyclone Owen moves closer towards the Gulf coast.

TLDMG Deputy Chair Cr Kurt Rehbein said there may be significant rainfall from Tropical Cyclone Owen so residents should still remain vigilant – particularly those living in low lying areas.

"Townsville City Council is providing free sand and sand bags at sites across the community, in case we get significant rainfall here," Cr Rehbein.

"In the event that Tropical Cyclone Owen tracks towards Townsville, anyone living in low-lying areas should take normal precautions and prepare their home to prevent inundation, ensure you have a cyclone kit that is well stocked and never drive on flooded roads."

Cr Rehbein said the TLDMG will advise residents of any important information about Tropical Cyclone Owen when necessary.

"Extreme weather is a part of living in the tropics and we're no strangers to a lot of rain here in Townsville," Cr Rehbein.

"Anyone wanting to stay up to date should visit Council's Emergency Management Dashboard."
