The Toowoomba Local Disaster Management Group has moved to stand down level following the serious Millmerran Woods bushfires this week.
The stand down includes the closure of the evacuation centre that was activated at the Millmerran Showgrounds for residents who sought shelter during the event.
Toowoomba Region Mayor and Chair of the Local Disaster Management Group Paul Antonio praised the efforts of rural and auxiliary firefighters who protected property and life during the fires.
"The team at QFES (Queensland Fire and Emergency Services) did a remarkable job in keeping our community safe.
"While there was some loss of structures during the event, there was no loss of life or injuries reported so people were kept safe which is an amazing effort.
"The State Emergency Service volunteers from across the Toowoomba Region and neighbouring areas supported firefighters by refilling and refueling the water bombing aircraft and also need to be thanked for their efforts.
"We've also heard stories of neighbours helping neighbours to evacuate pets and livestock, providing safe shelter to people and the community's role cannot be understated.
"To everyone whole helped others during the fires, I thank you for your selflessness," Mayor Antonio said.
"With the continued weakening of the La Nina weather pattern, residents across the region should expect drier conditions over coming months and with that comes the obvious threat of bushfires.
"Residents should stay vigilant and be prepared with a bushfire action plan and regardless of the type of threat, stay up to date with latest warnings via Council's Disaster Dashboard," Mayor Antonio said.
