Toowoomba Region's library closures will not affect the library e-services.
Toowoomba Regional Council General Manager of Environment and Community Services, Mr Nick Hauser said the decision to close our libraries was a safety precaution based on Federal Government advice limiting non-essential indoor gatherings.
"We've already seen a reduction in volunteers and participant numbers that have resulted in the postponement of library programs and these library closures are the next step," Mr Hauser said.
"During the library closure, we would encourage people to hold on to, and take care of library resources as library return chutes will also be closed.
"During the closure, the due dates for borrowed materials will be automatically extended, and no late fees charged.
"Unfortunately, those that have resources on hold or reserved will not be able to collect them during the closure.
"The closure will also mean that the Council's mobile service will no longer be available.
"Council apologises for any inconvenience this closure may cause, however, we would encourage the community to use alternate library services.
"Our many online resources remain available 24/7 including e-books, e-audio-books, e-magazines and newspapers, online films, music and more.
"If members of the community find themselves needing to stay home or self-isolate, e-library services are still available through Council's website - http://www.tr.qld.gov.au/facilities-recreation/libraries/elibrary - or our MyTRlibrary APP.
"With more than a million items loaned from our libraries, including 105,000 digital items, the APP extends access to customers via a mobile platform.
"During library closures, if you require any assistance or need help to access online services, please contact our library staff on 131 872 or go to www.tr.qld.gov.au/libraries.
