Toowoomba State High School embraces new projects in State Budget

Local Government Minister Stirling Hinchliffe today visited Toowoomba State High School, meeting with staff and students.

Mr Hinchliffe checked out the location where a new performing arts centre will be built after the project was allocated funding in the 2019/20 State Budget.

The Palaszczuk Government is investing $11 million for the performing arts centre and refurbishments to Block C, E and Block B's art space as well as other smaller projects.

"It was fantastic to tour Toowoomba State High today, sharing in the excitement with students and staff about their new performing arts centre, which will feature arts, music and multi-media spaces once finished," Mr Hinchliffe said.

"Toowoomba State High is one of the schools that will benefit from the $235 million Renewing Our Schools Program, delivering significant upgrades to Queensland schools that are more than 30 years old.

"On top of the performing arts centre, a car parking bay will be built to support the centre, a security fence will be built around the school and the cricket nets will also be relocated.

"This is a big win for the school community, with the whole project supporting 32 full-time jobs."

Over $17 million is being injected into infrastructure projects at schools in the electorates of Toowoomba North and Toowoomba South, part of the record $1.464 billion Queensland state school infrastructure spend in the Budget.

"We're investing almost $13 million in school projects across the Toowoomba North electorate and $4.4 million in Toowoomba South," Mr Hinchliffe said.

"This includes upgrades to tuckshops and classrooms as well as well as continued funding for big projects such as a performing arts centre for Centenary Heights State High School and extra classrooms at Harristown State High.

"The Palaszczuk Government wants every Queensland child, wherever they live, to get a great start to life by receiving a world-class education.

"Our education infrastructure program also has the added benefit of creating and supporting jobs in the state's construction industry.

"Construction of these school projects is expected to support more than 4,245 state-wide."
