The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) WA Faculty has honoured outstanding contributions to general practice at its annual awards ceremony, celebrating leaders, educators, registrars, and practices across the state.
The evening provided the opportunity to celebrate the College's highest honour, the Rose-Hunt Award, awarded during GP25, which was presented to WA GP, Adjunct Associate Professor Frank R Jones, recognising his 45 years of service to general practice, including 40 years at Murray Medical Centre in Mandurah.
Professor Jones has worked across rural, procedural, and community settings and held numerous leadership roles within the RACGP, including President, Vice President, RACGP WA Chair and Provost.
Other worthy award recipients included:
- General Practitioner of the Year Award – Dr Rajeshwary (Raji) Krishnan, from Gosnells was honoured for her comprehensive care and service to vulnerable communities, including palliative care, Street Doctor mobile clinics, and research into rheumatic heart disease and hepatitis. Dr Krishnan was also awarded 2025 GP of the Year at GP25.
- General Practice of the Year Award – Carnarvon Medical Centre, led by Dr Kornelis Bakker, recognised for its multidisciplinary care and commitment to registrar training in a remote coastal community.
- Supervisor of the Year Award – Dr Jane Potter, from Kelmscott was celebrated for her compassionate care, transparency, and dedication to mentoring registrars and supporting their learning needs.
- General Practitioner in Training of the Year Award – Dr Alexander Ashenden, from Mandurah was acknowledged for his commitment to patient care, learning, and community service while balancing family, study, and his role as an ADF Registrar.
- Sam Bada Medical Educator Award – Dr Kylie Sterry, from Kalgoorlie was recognised for her exceptional dedication to mentoring and education, fostering innovation and critical thinking, and building a culture of excellence in rural general practice.
- Jack Christodulou Examiner Award – Dr Carrie Davis, from Mount Lawley for her 15 years of dedicated involvement in RACGP exams, including as a Quality Assurance Examiner since the inception of the Clinical Competency exam in 2021.
- WA Faculty Legend Award – Dr Richard Taylor, a Geraldton GP, acknowledged for his strong advocacy for rural members, leadership in faculty activities, and trusted voice in the community.
RACGP WA Chair Dr Ramya Raman said the awards highlighted the breadth of dedication across the profession.
