Tourism operators and industry members will gather in Lakes Entrance on Thursday, June 27 for the second Gippsland Tourism Forum of the year.

The forum includes a workshop, networking lunch and opportunities to hear local case studies.

There will also be a range of presentations relating to the tourism industry.

Mayor Cr Natalie O'Connell said the forum was an opportunity for East Gippsland operators to hear about the latest work in the sector.

"The forums are organised by Destination Gippsland, the peak tourism organisation for the Gippsland region. Three forums are held each year and I am pleased East Gippsland has again been selected to host a session," Cr O'Connell said.

"Tourism is a major contributor to our economy. Last year, East Gippsland had a 22 per cent increase in domestic day trips, which is a great result and shows the benefit of working together to market the region and develop events.

"We also increased our international overnight visitation by almost 25 per cent last year, to a total of approximately 49,000 visitors.

"In 2015, Council worked with industry operators to develop an International Tourism Action Plan so it is very pleasing to see a strong upward trend in this demographic," Cr O'Connell said.

Destination Gippsland CEO, Terry Robinson said the forum would be beneficial for many people.
