Rockhampton Regional Council has installed new tourism infrastructure to help meet demand from the growing number of caravan and RV travellers coming to the region.
A new RV dump point is now open at the Heritage Village, allowing travellers to stop off the highway at a convenient location close to shops, fuel stations and tourist attractions.
Caravanners spend $12.6 billion across Australia every year, according to new figures from The Caravan Industry Association and this infrastructure is critical to ensuring those travellers choose to stop, stay and explore in Rockhampton.
The new Heritage Village facilities have replaced the old dump point at Nuttall Street, which had become outdated and required constant repair.
There will be a four-week overlap between the opening of the new Heritage Village facility and the closure of the Nuttall Street site, ensuring a smooth transition for users.
By enhancing amenities for travellers, the project will encourage longer stays in the region and improve the overall visitor experience at the Heritage Village, strengthening Rockhampton's appeal as a welcoming stop for road travellers.
The project was funded through Council's Capital Works Program.
