Tourism voucher registration opens tomorrow

Peter Gutwein,Premier

Registrations for the new $7.5 million tourism voucher scheme open tomorrow, enticing Tasmanians to holiday at home, book into local accommodation, and take part in local experiences right across our state.

Tasmanians will be able to register their interest for a voucher from tomorrow via www.travelvoucherstasmania.com.au, or for those that have limited access to the internet via phone on 1800 344 077.

There is no need to rush as Tasmanians will have five days to register, with registrations closing August 9.

Following the closing of registrations, the vouchers will be allocated via a ballot system to ensure they are fairly allocated to as many Tasmanians as possible, with successful recipients being notified on August 11.

The vouchers are able to be used 7 days a week and can be used on multiple occasions until 24 September, and are worth $300 each, with the initiative offering up to $200 for accommodation and $100 for tourism experiences.

Experiences could include packaged food and wine tours at producers' venues, coach and small group day tours or even rental car hire.

The last round of vouchers generated an estimated $27.5 million in additional spending in the State, supporting countless businesses and providing significant flow on benefit to hospitality businesses and regional economies.

I'm urging all Tasmanians to take part in this exciting opportunity by registering their interest in a voucher, and if successful, getting out and about and experiencing all our beautiful State has to offer while supporting Tassie businesses.
