Canadians continue to turn to outdoor and recreational activities to keep their families active and healthy. Parks, trails, beaches and other community spaces are important to the well-being of individuals, families, and communities and can help create economic opportunities. The governments of Canada and Newfoundland and Labrador are helping the Town of Chance Cove improve the local coastal hiking trail and increase the area's tourism potential.

Support for trail infrastructure

Today, Churence Rogers, Member of Parliament for Bonavista-Burin-Trinity, on behalf of the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Official Languages and Minister responsible for ACOA; and the Honourable Steve Crocker, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation, announced a combined contribution of $82,736 to the Town of Chance Cove.

This investment helped the town make the Chance Cove Coastal Hiking Trail a safer attraction by removing tripping hazards, filling in areas of the walking surface and improving drainage to prevent washouts. The project also supported the replacement and installation of new boardwalks and steps along the trail and the addition of interpretative signage for hikers.

Today's announcement further demonstrates the Government of Canada's commitment to support initiatives that build the economies and vibrancy of Atlantic Canadian communities.
