Townsville beaches closed for contamination testing

Townsville beaches have been closed while repairs to the Cleveland Bay Purification Plant are carried out following the unprecedented flood.

There is a potential that beaches have been affected by contamination as a result of the extreme stress put on the Cleveland Bay Purification Plant during the rain event.

The affected beaches will remain closed until the repairs are completed and testing is carried out to make sure they are safe to reopen.

Beaches closed include:

  • The Strand Rockpool
  • The Strand
  • Rowes Bay
  • Pallarenda
  • Horseshoe Bay
  • Alma Bay
  • Picnic Bay
  • Balgal Beach
