Townsville beaches reopened

Townsville City Council crews have reopened beaches in the city with tests determining they are safe for the public.

The unprecedented flood put extreme stress on the Cleveland Bay Purification Plant and there was the potential for beaches to be affected while the plant was repaired.

Stinger nets will also be restored at most major beaches once the king tide is over.

Reopened beaches are:

  • The Strand
  • Strand Rockpool
  • Pallarenda
  • Rowes Bay
  • Alma Bay
  • Horseshoe Bay (stinger net has been reinstated)
  • Picnic Bay
  • Balgal Beach

The dog beach at Benwell Road remains closed to the public.

All recovery information is available through the Emergency Management Dashboard.
