This new system allows vehicles manufactured in the U.S. to be sold in Japan without undergoing additional Japan-specific certification testing. Toyota has been exploring the use of this system to sell vehicles produced at its U.S. plants in Japan. Today, it announced that the Tundra and Highlander, two models popular in the U.S., have obtained certification under the system and will now be sold in Japan.

Sales of the Camry, which was also under consideration, will begin as soon as preparations are complete. By bringing these three U.S.-produced models to Japan, Toyota will meet the diverse needs of a broad range of customers and help further strengthen Japan-U.S. relations.
