Traffic changes on North Shore Boulevard

Townsville City Council will make changes to the traffic management arrangements currently in-place on North Shore Boulevard from this Sunday 16 August.

A temporary 5-tonne load limit on the road has been in-place since mid-July after the bridge over Stony Creek was damaged in a fire.

The heat from the fire was hot enough to spall the concrete cover on several bridge deck units, which exposed the high-tensile, prestressed wires in those deck units.

From Sunday, Council will close one lane on the bridge, with traffic lights to be installed to manage traffic flow.

Council officers continue to work to finalise plans to permanently fix the damaged bridge deck units.

The 5-tonne temporary load limit will stay in place until the rectification works are completed.

Council thanks the community for its continued patience and understanding as it works to repair the damaged bridge.
