Trail Bike Crash at Trial Harbour

A North-West man in his 30's has tragically died on Ocean Beach just south of Trial Harbour.

Just after 3:00 pm on Sunday the alarm was raised that the man had been found semi-conscious on the Beach. Other members of his riding party returned to look for him when he failed to rendezvous with them at the Beach's exit.

"Initial investigations have determined the man was riding a trail bike north on Ocean Beach when it appears he has struck a buried log. The bike remained upright for some distance afterward, but eventually it did come to rest on its side. The man was found semi-conscious with his bike a very short time later," said Senior Sergeant Adam Spencer of West Coast Police.

"One rider went to Trial Harbour to raise the alarm, whilst another activated his Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) on the Beach itself. The Tasmania Police Westpac Rescue Helicopter was deployed,

"Police and Ambulance Tasmania four-wheel drives moved quickly to Ocean Beach and found the man's peers performing CPR. Paramedics took over, but despite everyone's best efforts – he unfortunately died at the scene. Our thoughts and condolences are with his family."

The incident is being investigated and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
