Toowoomba Regional Council is joining other road safety organisations in the campaign to honour, remember, and protect road workers for National Road Safety Week.
This Sunday, November 9, is 'Road Worker Day of Remembrance' which will shine a light on the importance of driving safely around road works.
TRC Construction and Maintenance portfolio spokesperson Councillor Carol Taylor said every worker has the right to go home safely to their family at the end of each day.
"Behind the hi-vis, cones and lane closures are parents, friends, neighbours, all with someone waiting for them at home. Their job is to keep their teams and everybody around them safe.
"Too often, lives are cut short, and families changed forever, by drivers who don't observe the fatal five, with added attention around roadworks.
"On November 9, and every day, slow down around road works. Pay attention. Look beyond the hi-vis and remember those who have lost their lives or been badly injured," Cr Taylor said.
"Road Worker Day of Remembrance is a reminder to us all to make sure everyone gets home safely," she said.
