TRC Expands Support for Community Organizations

Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) has lent a helping hand to several local community organisations across the Region by upgrading their building facilities.

At the end of the 2024/25 financial year, TRC generously donated three air-cooling systems which were installed into the main exhibition areas of the Millmerran Museum: The Don Houston Collection and the "Water Baby" Exhibit.

TRC Property Services portfolio spokesperson Cr Trevor Manteufel said he was glad Council were able to positively contribute to such an important community organisation.

"This is one of many ways, we continue to support our regional communities," Cr Manteufel said.

The popular regional attraction, maintained by the Millmerran & District Historical Society Inc., has been attracting visitors to the Toowoomba Region since its opening in 1981.

"TRC acknowledges the great impact the Millmerran Museum has on our Region's tourism industry. The Millmerran & District Historical Society should be very proud having built and maintained a state-of-the-art museum with 14 historical buildings and an extensive collection which beautifully showcases the history of Millmerran,"

"Council knows the building can get quite warm in the summer, so we wanted to be able to ensure visitors could comfortably enjoy the exhibitions during the warmer seasons."

The same can be said for the Cecil Plains Hall which also recently received upgraded air conditioning units.

"We know the hall is a social hub for the Cecil Plains community. It is used to host many community functions including regular community group meetings, special occasions like birthdays, community concerts and much more. Upgrading the air conditioning units at the Cecil Plains Hall was one way Council could improve the facilities for the benefit of the whole community," Cr Manteufel said.

"Council will continue to support other regional community organisations in the future."

The air conditioning upgrades for the Millmerran Museum and the Cecil Plains Hall were followed by TRC's endorsement of a four-year non-competitive payment schedule assisting the Millmerran & District Historical Society Inc with insurance payments as part of the Core Community Support Program in June, 2025.

As part of the support program, TRC have also voted to financial assist nine other historical societies and 45 community halls across the Region until the end of the 2028/29 financial year.

The Every time You… campaign aims to raise awareness of the myriad of ways residents interact with TRC services on a daily basis, sometimes without even knowing it.
