Cessnock City Council's monthlong schedule of biodiversity-focused community activities will deliver a great day outdoors this weekend, with two special events at Kitchener on Sunday, 14 September.
First, make a lasting contribution to our beautiful natural environment by planting native trees in Poppethead Park from 8am to 10.30am. Seedlings will be supplied and holes pre-dug – just bring some gloves, a bottle of drinking water and sun protection!
Then, grab your picnic rug, rustle-up some family or friends, and head to Khartoum Hotel from 1.30pm for an afternoon of biodiversity-themed trivia, a sausage sizzle, and a live performance by singer-songwriter Trinity Woodhouse in the pub's outdoor area. The quiz, run by Your Local Trivia, is open to teams of two to eight people. The music and barbecue will start at 4pm.
Cessnock City Mayor Daniel Watton said this Sunday was a standout on Council's biodiversity month calendar for 2025.
"I encourage everyone to get their hands dirty planting seedlings in the morning, then flex their mind muscles and have a bit of fun with friends and family to round-out the day," said Clr Watton.
"These events offer a wonderful opportunity for people to get outside and connect with their community in a welcoming environment."
