Joint media release with the Hon David Harris MP
Major upgrades to the Tumbarumba Equine Club have been completed following investments by the Albanese and Minns governments, delivering modern and accessible services that will attract greater social and economic activity to the region.
Tumbarumba Equine Club Incorporated received $800,000 from the Albanese Government through the Black Summer Bushfire Recovery Program for a new safe and secure stockholding site to house large animals during emergencies.
The upgrades to the Tumbarumba Racecourse site also include 20 new electrical posts that provide power to 80 camping sites for public use.
These new sites will be more easily accessed, with a new road making it easier to commute in and out of the area during community events and festivals.
In addition, $200,000 was provided by the NSW Government for upgrades through ClubGRANTS Category 3 Disaster Readiness Infrastructure funding.
The grant was used to build additional stockholding yards with protective roofing, associated watering facilities and to install lighting.
Improvements will help the Tumbarumba Equine Club attract new members and broaden opportunities to host festivals and events, which will significantly boost local economic growth.
The Tumbarumba Equine Club has 14 member organisations, which all use the Tumbarumba Racecourse for regular events.
Quotes attributable to Federal Minister for Emergency Management Kristy McBain
"As the former local member for Tumbarumba, I am proud to have supported the building of this amazing new facility through the Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Grants.
"Not only did this facility and the racecourse provide a point of refuge for members of the community and their animals during the Black Summer Bushfires - by offering locals a safe space for their animals, a staging area for fodder and feed to be provided, as well as vet services - it has always been a point of community connection.
"The future looks bright now with the Tumbarumba equine facility built, fitted out and able to provide more adequate protection during future natural disasters. This will also unlock economic opportunity for the region by increasing the capacity to hold bigger equine events.
"A big congratulations to all involved in seeing this project come to life."
Quotes attributable to the NSW Minister for Gaming and Racing David Harris
"I am proud ClubGrants Category 3 is continuing to invest in local organisations to ensure that essential infrastructure is in place to help communities better respond to natural disasters in their region.
"This funding has allowed the Tumbarumba Equine Club to create a safe disaster evacuation area for large animals, as well as an emergency accommodation site with camping, catering and toilet and showering facilities.
"These upgrades also provide a great benefit to the local community providing a new arena and amenities for recreation and social events."
Quotes attributable to the President of the Tumbarumba Equine Club Brent Livermore
"The need for such a facility was identified following the Bushfires of 2019-2020, when it became obvious that there really was no safe place for people with larger animals to evacuate.
"We are thankful for the support received to ensure our community has a safe place for our larger animals when disasters hit."
