Turbocharged Litchfield National Park: Stage 1 Road Access Tender Awarded

The Territory Labor Government is creating local jobs andboosting tourism and recreational activities through a $17.5 million investmentin Litchfield National Park.

The investment includes $11.3 million of TurbochargingTourism funding.

Aldebaran Contracting Pty Ltd has been awarded the tender for stage 1 of the Litchfield Central Valley development,which will see the construction of 18 kilometres of unsealed road and trackssuitable for 4WD vehicles.

The tracks will lead the way for stage 2 works, whichwill open up five new swimming spots to the public, with new campgrounds,trails, picnic areas, car parking and viewing platforms.

Stage 1 works will begin this month and are due forcompletion in early 2020.

This investment will allow the park to cope with the increasingdemand for tourism experiences while improving overcrowding issues that occurduring the peak tourism period (May-October).

As stated by the Minister for Tourism, Sportand Culture, Lauren Moss:

Our $17.5 million investment into LitchfieldNational Park will strengthen the parks position as a premier touristdestination for adventure seekers.

With road works being fast-tracked, we areone step closer to opening up new camping grounds, swimming spots, 4WD tracksand picnic areas, while supporting local jobs.

Litchfield National Park attracts more than330,000 visitors per year. This investment will cater for an extra 60,000visitors meaning more tourists to the Territoryand a boost to the local economy.
