The ground has been turned to signal work starting on the much-anticipated Bracken Ridge Fire and Rescue Station by Queensland Fire and Emergency Services Minister Craig Crawford and Member for Sandgate Stirling Hinchcliffe.
Mr Hinchliffe said that once it was up and running, the new station would accommodate the operational and training needs of Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) staff.
"The station is forecast to be ready by the first half of next year and is a welcome upgrade to emergency services staff who responded to more than 500 incidents since July 2018," he said.
"As part of the Queensland State Government's 2017 election commitment, the current Sandgate Fire and Rescue Station site will be granted to the community and not sold off for profit."
Mr Crawford said the new $6 million Bracken Ridge station and Technical Rescue Hub would replace the old station and look after the area currently covered by Sandgate Fire and Rescue Service.
"During construction, the project will support about 20 jobs, which is part of the Palaszczuk Government's much bigger and highly-successful job-creation program," he said.
"Our government's $46 billion infrastructure program has supported 38,000 jobs this year alone.
"That's helped us create almost 185,000 jobs for the Queensland economy since January 2015."
