Turkmen Energy Ministry Joins Tashkent Clean Power Workshop

Senior officials from the Turkmenistan Ministry of Energy attended UK-supported regional training on clean electricity transition.

Senior representatives of the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan participated in a regional training workshop on clean electricity transition. The workshop took place in Tashkent from 31 March to 3 April, with support from the British Embassy in Turkmenistan.

The workshop was delivered by leading UK technical experts and academics under the Green Grids Initiative and was based on the Electricity Transition Playbook. The Playbook is a practical framework designed to support countries in planning and implementing the shift to modern, low-carbon power systems.

The training strengthened participants' capacity to design and deliver effective electricity transition strategies. It provided a structured approach to identifying priority areas for reform, developing actionable national plans, mobilising resources and monitoring progress across key building blocks of the transition.

Participants benefited from:

  • enhanced understanding of the technical, economic and policy dimensions of electricity transition
  • practical tools to support planning and implementation at national level
  • access to international expertise and best practices
  • opportunities to exchange experience with regional peers
  • integration into a global network of policymakers and experts working on clean energy transitions

As electricity demand continues to grow across Central Asia, strengthening transmission systems, improving energy security and ensuring equitable access to clean power are becoming increasingly important. The workshop addressed these challenges and supported countries in navigating the complexities of the transition.
