If your new year's resolution is more time in the garden, the Green Plan Plant Sale is a great spot to start.
On Friday 16 January, Wollongong Botanic Garden's nursery gates will open for the first plant sale of 2026 - with 50% off native grasses!
Curator Felicity Skoberne promised a wide selection of healthy plants for sale and expert staff to offer advice on caring for them.
"One of the great things about our Greenplan Plant Sales is you know that most of the plants available for purchase have been grown locally so they're already accustomed to Wollongong's climate,'' she said.
"Plus, because our horticulturalists work locally, they know the area really well and can provide advice around what are the best local trees, shrubs, ground covered and grasses to grow in your garden.
Ms Skoberne said it was tough to pick a favourite.
"Looking great this month are flowering groundcovers such as rock daisy (Brachyscome angustifolia) and yellow buttons (Chrysocephalum apiculatum), hardy shrubs like coastal rosemary (Westringia fruiticosa) and mint bush (Prostanthera incisa), and canopy trees like the cheese tree (Glochidion ferdinandi)," she said.
The full plant list and pricing are available on the Wollongong Botanic Garden website .
"We'll have a coffee van onsite. Grab a hot drink and shop til your heart's content."
Further sale dates:
- Friday 20 February
- Saturday 7 March
- Friday 20 March
- Friday 17 April
Please note: This is a ratepayer subsidised service. A current Wollongong City Council rates notice is required on the day as proof of residency. If you rent in the area, you will need to seek approval from your landlord. Ask them to write a letter of support for your garden plans and bring that along to make a purchase.
