Tweed celebrates National Reconciliation Week

Tweed Shire Council
National Reconciliation Week 2021 takes place from 27 May to 3 June.
Residents are encouraged to take part in Reconciliation Australia's National Acknowledgement of Country to show respect for the traditional custodians of the Tweed, the local Aboriginal people of the Bundjalung Nation.

People can post their Acknowledgement of Country on social media at 9 am on Thursday 27 May, to join voices across the nation to strengthen respectful relationships between the wider Australian community and Indigenous peoples.

"This small action will help to raise awareness of the histories and cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people," Director Sustainable Communities and Environment Tracey Stinson said.

"Acknowledging Country shows you accept and understand that wherever you are across the Tweed, you are on Aboriginal lands and acknowledge that important, ongoing connection to Country."
