Two people have been arrested and police have seized firearms and drugs following a three-month investigation into the trafficking of firearms across Melbourne's north western suburbs.
Detectives from the North West Metro Regional Crime Squad executed several warrants this week as part of Operation Recharger.
Suburbs included Deanside, Taylors Hill, Altona North, Yarraville and Taylors Lakes.
Two firearms were seized, as well as a range of drugs including what is believed to be methylamphetamine and cannabis.
A 37-year-old Deanside man was arrested on Monday (8 February) and was charged with a range of offences, including:
• Manufacture firearm
• Possess equipment for the manufacture of firearm
• Prohibited person possess firearm
• Unlicensed person possess firearm
• Six counts of manufacture handgun
• Possess/acquire two or more firearms
• Possess drug of dependence
He was remanded in custody to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 18 May.
A 54-year-old Altona North man was arrested on Wednesday (10 February) and charged with prohibited person possess handgun and cultivating cannabis. He was bailed to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 24 April.
