Two charged after 65km pursuit through southern NSW

Two people are due in Goulburn Local Court tomorrow following a police pursuit, NSW Police say.

It was about 10.45am today, a stolen Ford utility was pursued north along the Hume Highway from Gundagai to Bookham – about 65km – by officers attached to Cootamundra Highway Patrol.

The pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns at Bookham; however, a second officer began following the ute at low-speed. A short time later, a man and woman were arrested.

They were taken to Yass Police Station where they were charged

A 34-year-old man has been charged with drive motor vehicle while disqualified, two counts of police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly, dishonestly obtain property by deception, steal motor vehicle, be carried in conveyance, receive property stolen outside NSW, and speeding.

A 25-year-old woman has been charged with dishonestly obtain benefit by deception, take and drive conveyance, and receive stolen property.

They have been refused bail to appear in Goulburn Local Court tomorrow.

Both are from Queanbeyan.

An internal investigation is now underway into the discharge of a police firearm during the second pursuit.
