In a stroke of fortune, two Canberra residents each won nearly $1 million in the recent Saturday Lotto draw 4425 on December 16, 2023. This draw saw a total of five division one winning entries across Australia, with each player taking home $982,100.68.
The Canberra man, who purchased his winning 12-game QuickPick online, was astounded to discover his newfound wealth just an hour before speaking with officials.
He recounted his disbelief at winning such a substantial amount, which he initially mistook for a smaller prize.
“I’m still just spinning out,” the man exclaimed when an official from The Lott called to confirm his prize yesterday morning.
“I only just discovered I’d won about an hour ago.
“It’s funny. I had two tickets… one of them won a smaller prize and I was stoked. And then I checked this one and I thought, ‘Holy sh**! That can’t be right!’.
“I was fully spun out!
“You have no idea what this means to me.
“It’s a pretty decent prize – I’m not going to lie.
“It will allow me to buy a house. This is definitely the best way to start a new year!”
Similarly, a Wanniassa woman experienced a sleepless night after realizing her fortune. She purchased her winning 17-game marked entry at Erindale News N Gifts in the Erindale Shopping Centre.
“I couldn’t sleep. My brain just went into hyperdrive,” she laughed when speaking to a lotto official.
“I didn’t sleep all night, but that’s a good problem to have.
“I check my numbers every Saturday night. I don’t go to bed until I check my ticket.
“This time, I just kept looking at it. I double-checked it four times until it sank in that there were all six numbers there.
“I think I sat there and cried.
“I’ve already thought about what I’ll do with the prize. It’s not just mine… I’m going to donate to charity, help the kids and family, and treat myself along the way.
“I’m just thrilled”.
