A police officer and a second man have been charged following an investigation into the alleged possession and distribution of child abuse material.
In May this year, investigators attached to the Professional Standards Command commenced an investigation into allegations that child abuse material was being stored and distributed on an electronic device.
During the course of the investigation, items including a mobile phone were seized and forensically examined.
Following further inquiries, a 62-year-old man was arrested at Five Dock yesterday (Wednesday 2 June 2021).
He was taken to Burwood Police Station and charged with use carriage service for child abuse material and possess child abuse material.
He was granted conditional bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on Tuesday 13 July 2021.
Shortly after, a further search warrant was executed at Georges Hall where police located and seized electronic storage devices.
A 49-year-old man, who is a sergeant attached to a specialist command, was arrested at the location and taken to Liverpool Police Station.
He was charged with possess child abuse material and granted conditional bail to appear at Liverpool Local Court on Monday 21 June 2021.
The officer remains suspended with pay.
